What is NZCEL?

New Zealand Certificate in English Language.

NZCEL has been developed by NZQA – New Zealand Qualifications Authority
It is:
• An English language qualification with enhanced national and international credibility.
• Recognised by Polytechnics and Universities.
• A smooth pathway and simple framework for learning.
• A framework matched to CEFR levels (Common European Framework of Reference)
These qualifications are supported and verified by moderation processes and consistency checks across NZ.
Students leaving Bay Learning Academy with a Certificate in English that reflects the NZCEL framework will have a record of Unit Standards gained and they will be listed on the NZQA framework.

How is the qualification designed?
There are 6 levels within the NZCEL qualification, starting from Foundation and rising to Advanced.
Each level is expected to take 6 months and has 60 credits.
Depending on the student’s ability on arrival, and effort during the course, this may be less than 6 months.
Assessments are carried out during the course to accumulate those 60 credits.
